Marvin Mora

A joint declaration by the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize and the Belize Network of N.G.O.s was signed this morning in Belize City.  The tripartite statement is dubbed the Declaration of Social Partners of Belize for Reform of Essential Oversight Mechanisms to Strengthen the Democratic Governance of Belize.  Representing the N.T.U.C.B. was President Marvin Mora.

Marvin Mora, President, N.T.U.C.B.

“The Declaration of Social Partners of Belize for Reform of Essential Oversight Mechanisms to Strengthen the Democratic Governance of Belize, acknowledging the share aims of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Belize Network of Non-governmental Organizations and the National Trade Union Congress of Belize as they pertain to achieving meaningful governance and political reform that advances proper and equitable public sector management for the benefit of the Belizean populace via the reduction of corruption, recognizing that for approximately two decades successive government administrations have failed to institute the necessary reforms that would guarantee oversight institutions their true independence which is defined as the institutions that are adequately resourced and insulated from the control of the executive branch, recalling that the oversight referenced above include but are not limited to the Integrity Commission, electoral management bodies, the Office of the Contractor General, the Office of the Auditor General, the Public Accounts Committee, underscoring that weak oversight places Belize’s democracy at risk.”
