Southern Highway to be Renamed T.V. Ramos Highway
On Thursday, the Government of Belize formally opened a stretch of highway connecting Ladyville to the Western Pines community during an inauguration in which that thoroughfare was also officially named the John Smith Airport Link Road. In keeping with the theme of naming public buildings, roads and bridges after Belizean patriots, this morning Prime Minister Dean Barrow proposed that the Southern Highway which spans Dangriga and Punta Gorda be renamed the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway. T.V. Ramos was a civil rights and social activist who promoted the interests of the Garifuna people and is also considered a national hero.
