The Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, ACP Joseph Myvett, says that their investigation is being widened to see if those same culprits are responsible for the theft of a motor vehicle just outside of Arenal recently.

On the Phone: ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“During the course of the investigation also, police learned that the same four males attempted to steal another motorcycle from Hedalias Cunil, twenty-seven-years-old, also a Belizean of Arenal Village, however, they were unsuccessful because they could not have gotten the cycle started.  Also, in continuing with their investigation, police learned this morning from one Angel Najarro, also a Belizean of Arenal Village, that his home was entered into and broken into by these same individuals sometime over the course of yesterday evening where his sixteen gauge license shotgun was stolen.  Police so far are seeking a known suspect who lives in Arenal Belize who is a Belizean national who was a part of that group.  At this point in time we are looking at those investigations because, as you are aware, a vehicle was recently stolen from one Rufino Morales, I believe just on the outskirts of Arenal just a few days ago.  So we are trying to see if this same group is responsible for that robbery.  Also, some members of the B.D.F. are attached with the Special Patrol Unit that are stationed in that area.  We are seeking a known suspect who is known to the police in relation to this investigation.  The others were not necessarily identified as some of those assailants were wearing masks.”
