Technician plummets to death from bank

Shortly after 10:00 this morning, construction work on top of the Atlantic bank building on Freetown Road came to an abrupt halt as a workman plummeted to his death. 40-year old Mario Lobo, a Honduran electronic technician was hired by the bank to work on a satellite communications dish, which is located on the roof of the fourth floor of the building. Reports are that Lobo, who was on a scaffolding, was making his way to the top when he slipped and fell to the ground. One of the first to reach Lobo’s side was Sylvia Major, a school warden at the Bethel Assembly primary school. Major told News Five she was on patrol when she witnessed the horrifying accident. Major says as the man reached the ground, he hit is face on some cement blocks and started bleeding from his ears and mouth.

“While coming back here, I stood at the gate to the back there and I just saw the man coming from the top and I started to yell for help. I started to yell for help and the secretary and a teacher came and assist us and we started to run. We opened to door and went around. He had already dropped on the cement blocks, to the back and all I asked them to do is to help me so that we can lift him and take him the to the front. Then I noticed that he was bleed through his nose and ears. I made him lean over and let the blood run because it was choking him. Then I started to check his pulse, but his pulse was already gone.”
Lobo was taken to Belize Medical Associates where he received emergency medical attention. However, he died around 11:15 this morning. After a post mortem examination, the Lobo’s body will be taken to Honduras for burial.
