Where are the Tablets for Students?

Elena Smith

Seven point six million dollars was allocated by the government to purchase hardware and software to assist student with distance learning during the pandemic. The monies were approved by the House on September sixteen and it is expected that fifteen thousand five hundred tablets and accompanying software will be bought and distributed to high school students who began classes on Monday. B.N.T.U. National President Elena Smith says that the tablets have yet to be distributed.

“The last we heard that those tablets had not arrived as yet so those have not been distributed. You hear several things and you hear that they are being charged for it. I don’t k now which school is charging but that is what we are hearing. But again in the rural areas where there is no electricity the child will have no use for the tables because they can’t access any internet. There is no internet there. So the child cannot access that. SO those students will have to be given paper based work.”

“As far as we have heard none were distributed as yet. I don’t know if anything came in this week.”
