ComPol Williams Speaks on Heroin Bust
The police department is actively following a lead that can result in another heroin bust. On Tuesday four men were caught with almost eight pounds of the highly addictive illegal drug while they were parked at a gas station near Belmopan. Forty-two-year-old Guatemalan Jaime Galvez and Belizeans twenty-two-year-old Wilson Morales, thirty-six-year-old Leeson Evelyn, and forty-seven-year-old Jerry Pelayo were inside a Ford Ranger pickup truck when a search was conducted. Officers found the drug in a knapsack under the spare tire in the vehicle that was heading from Dangriga to Belmopan. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams did not provide much details saying that the bust on Tuesday is part of a larger heroin operation.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We have to always keep an open mind in terms of the creativity of these drugs pushers. Heroin carries a more attractive price tag than cocaine and so once they would have the opportunity they are going to try. So I am very happy that we were able to make that interception and those persons were detained and charged. We are going to keep our eyes and ears open because we leave that there is more that they will try to smuggle in our country.”
