Spanish Lookout Residents Not Adhering to COVID-19 Control Measures?
When it comes to policing COVID-19, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says his officers are issuing too many warnings and not taking enough action to charge those breaking the law. We’ve received complaints from persons who say they have observed a large number of persons in Spanish Lookout who are not adhering to the wearing of mask; physical distancing and mass gathering law. Today we asked Commissioner Williams about these reports – he says the department has received similar complaints and he has personally visited the Mennonite community to verify.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“The truth is we have received those reports and I personally have gone to Spanish Lookout on three different occasions to see if it is indeed so. I didn’t come across it at a rampant pace. Yes, there are few places that you go in and as they see I step in – I see everybody start adjust their mask which mean they would have it on and below their nose and as I step in they would hurry pull over their nose. But for the most part, people are compliant in Spanish Lookout. There are a few, yes, who are not and I would wish that the police would do more to go after those persons who are not compliant not only in Spanish Lookout but across the country because it is the only way that people are going to take us seriously and take the regulations for what they truly are. If it is that we remain lax and people continue to get away with breeches there is no way we are going to put a stop to the virus.”
