Spelling champ cheered in Orange Walk
He walked away with top honours in the National Spelling Bee and on Thursday his hometown celebrated with a motorcade. 11-year old Al Sanchez of Louisiana Government School was crowned champion when he spelled the word “tsunami” correctly last Friday at Belize City Centre. In addition to the accolades from his community both Sanchez and his school received full computer systems from the event’s sponsor, Bowen and Bowen. Sanchez made history by being the first student from Orange Walk to win the annual competition.
