B.P.P. Says Bring on the National Leadership Debate!
The B.P.P. says bring on the debate! Leader Patrick Rogers says that they have been waiting for the opportunity to have a national leadership debate. He told News Five today that they readily accepted the Chamber of Commerce and Galen University’s invitation. During the U.D.P.’s press conference on Monday, Party Leader Patrick Faber announced that he will also partake. Rogers told us why he wants to face-off in the debate.
Patrick Rogers, Leader, B.P.P.
“We answered within minutes after receiving the mail. Since 2008, I have been waiting for another debate since Patrick Faber and Lisa Shoman came for the Queen two parties against the then VIP candidate. After we won that debate, we have been waiting for another debate. But the parties understood that they cannot defend this system – it is the same system before 1981. We have been seeing another direction for this country where the resources of the country will benefit every one of us; not expanding the economy to be able to pay wi bills. No, no. Nuh talk to me about economic expansion. We need to ensure we measure economic development how our human capacity is being developed. If you look at what has happened to Belize, certainly we have seen economic expansion but it didn’t translate into benefits for our people. So, I am not going to that debate and be pigeon-holed into a western civilization definition of economics; economics dah bout people. So, that is the direction we will steer that debate in if they come to the table. We do not expect them to because we know they can’t defend this system and we the itch from 2008 for another chance to show Belize that deh brothers nuh got no love fi wi people.”
We note that the other independent party, Belize People’s Front also accepted the invitation. The debate is being planned and organized by the Belize Chamber of Commerce, Galen University and other partners.
