Businesses cash in on Mother’s Day
Different countries celebrate it at different times…and it seems that Belize has opted for the U.S. tradition of the second Sunday in May. That’s this Sunday and if you haven’t started thinking about the importance of mothers in your life, I’d like to jog your memory.

From dawn to well past dusk, mothers work hard preparing meals, cleaning house, raising children, not to mention the full time jobs many women perform outside the home. But whether you are a home maker or a career woman, one thing is certain, the work is never done. On Sunday, mothers will be honoured for the sacrifices they make on a daily basis to provide the best for their families.

If you don’t know what to buy for mom, the stores have been stocking up on a variety of items.
To make your shopping a little extra special, some stores are offering discounts on most of their gift items.

At Dave’s Furniture World the items have been slashed and there is a far greater variety of gifts to choose.

“Well this year, we have just received a wider variety of houseware items, we have some gift items, perfume sets. We are offering free gift-wrapping for this weekend. We also have a few furnitures packaged together, like a dining set and china closet, for a little over a $1,000. Then we have a bedroom set for under $800. That’s a chest with a bed, mattress, and a side table. And other smaller items, small appliances, blenders, toasters, breadmakers all of those have just arrived. Candles, crystals, area rugs, mirrors, picture frames and as I said free gift wrapping.”
Meanwhile, Mapye’s Beauty World is not only offering gift certificates for a complete beauty care and treatment, but there are some special deals on other mothers’ day gifts.

“Mothers just don’t necessarily have to be somebody’s mom. We have gifts which are more affordable for godmothers, aunts, those who are still mothers and people are giving more affordable gifts. We have little packages, they start from $10.50 to $22. You find that people give that to their godmothers and did different things like that. And then of course as you get to your wife and girlfriend the gifts become elaborate and more expensive and then you go with perfumes. Perfumes are always popular because every woman loves perfumes. Then for somebody very special we have the top of the line jewelry. Jewelry is always at the top of the line.”
If you cannot afford to get mom an expensive gift, don’t worry: the biggest gift of all is just to tell mother how special she is. To all moms, Happy Mother’s Day.
