2 More Escapees Recaptured; Only 7 Remain on the Lam
Escaped prisoners Kendale Flores and Luke Bowen were captured overnight on the Placencia Peninsula, following tips from the community. This morning the recaptured men were taken to the Police Training Academy in Belmopan before they were charged for escaping and then taken to the Belize Central Prison in Hattieville from where they escaped on October twelfth. Less than two weeks ago, the largest jailbreak in recent times was executed; a prison guard was held hostage for hours before some twenty-eight prisoners escaped from the compound. Escapee Akeem Tillett was shot during an exchange of fire with law enforcement officers on the Coastal Road on October thirteenth. But since then, twenty other escapees have been recaptured, majority pleaded guilty to the offense and were sentenced to a year in prison—some to run concurrently while others consecutively. A total of four have lawyered-up and are planning to fight the charge and are to return to court sometime in December. Police and the BDF have been swift in their operations so that tonight there are now only seven still on the lam.
