U.S. specialist checks up on manatee
Woody, the ailing manatee who was rescued 7 months ago in the waters near Belize City, was today visited by a high powered doctor. Veterinarian Dr. Greg Bossart of the University of Miami and Miami Seaquarium made the trip to Sarteneja where Woody has been convalescing. He will perform a medical assessment and help train local caregivers in the art and science of helping stranded mammals return to the wild in good health. Woody is expected to make his reentry into the wider Caribbean some 18 months from now. In addition to numerous volunteers, the rescue effort has received assistance from Courts and American Airlines.
