UWI officials meet on distance learning
Distance learning in Belize is fast becoming the best alternative for those desiring to continue their education while keeping their jobs. That’s one of the reasons the branch of the University of the West Indies is popular in Belize. This week, board members of the university’s committee on distance learning education will be meeting in Belize. Resident tutor for the University in Belize, Dr. Joseph Palacio, explained the purpose of the delegation’s visit.

“What is happening here is the board is meeting in Belize. The last meeting was in Grenada and it does that deliberately to bring members of the board something like 20 men and women from different parts of the region into a non-campus country to feel the environment, talk to people and generally as they deliberate, say they are being influenced by the Belizean situation for example.”

“Tell me some of the main concerns Belizean students must face while attending your organisation?”
Joseph Palacio
“One is the extent to which those courses that they are taking are accredited, that’s number one. Another one would have to do with the question of finance, how they compare with courses coming from other institutions and a third one would be the quality, quality of those courses relative to the quality of courses coming from other intuitions. I think those are three main areas they will be following up quite closely.”
Palacio says while here, members of the delegation will be meeting with officials from the Ministry of Education as well as representatives of the University College of Belize to discuss the possibility of affiliation between institutions.
