Who Will Be the Next Miss Universe Belize?
The search is on for the next Miss Universe Belize. It was recently announced that given the COVID-19 pandemic, a traditional pageant would not be possible for this year, but the Miss Universe Belize Organization has to select a delegate to represent the Jewel in the 2020 international pageant, whenever a date is announced. With deadlines fast approaching, the organization has sent out a casting call where in a two-step virtual process, a Miss Universe Belize 2020 will be chosen. News Five spoke with the reigning Miss Universe Belize, Destinee Arnold about the details.

“It’s going to be a bit different than normal. Normally we look forward to being able to go to a pageant and root for our favourite contestant, make noise in the crowd and bring all your paraphernalia like T-shirts, noisemakers and things of that nature, but since we are currently in the middle of a pandemic, it looks a little bit different this year. It is going to consist of two phases of interviews. Others may call it a casting call – I think that’s what it is called on the flyer actually. But the first round is a casting call with the committee and then the second is going to be an interview with people such as pageant experts internationally, fashion experts—people who are well-versed in the arena of pageantry—so that we assure that although we are selecting our queen a bit differently than normal, that we still are choosing a top tier candidate to represent our country. Personally, I am going to be looking for someone who can connect with people, someone who is personable, approachable, passionate about our country and passionate about pageantry. It’s a very serious job, it is a serious role; it comes with a lot of responsibility. You are hit with a lot of challenges that you will need to be mentally strong or ready in order to work through them on your own. Although you have a support team that may be behind you, there are still some things that you are going to have to handle on your own. So if you are looking to build your self-esteem, I highly recommend you doing that before you enter the pageant. So just someone who is hard-working knows what they are getting themselves into and can connect with people no matter where they come from.”
