Dr. Martin Cuellar, Dean of Student Affairs, University of Belize
“We have designed the programs so it maintains the historical traditions of a the graduation ceremony which is looking back and especially in our twentieth anniversary acknowledging all the accomplishments as well as the people who have put in blood, sweat and tears to bring the university where it is today. But it is also an important time for us to look forward and celebrate that accomplishment and look at how it can help us with not only our students and graduates’ development in future in our country’s development and so we try to accomplish both of those in the ceremony by the kind of participation that we have set up, the kind of people we have participating. One thing that we are doing differently, even though it is a virtual ceremony we will still include several elements that are interactive. I don’t want to give all the details at this time because we love the element of surprise for our grandaunts but yes it will include several elements of interaction. We will also be using more videos instead of still images wherever we can. We have included what is a first for UB graduation tradition which is a student speaker. We did a couple of exciting zoom sessions with grandaunts earlier as recently as this morning, in which a lot of our participants will be featured and so that will be a part of excitement that will culminated the entire ceremony in a specially prepared video homage to our graduates and all their hard work like you said.”
