B.T.I.A. Welcomes Government’s Recent Relaxation Measures

Stewart Krohn

According to B.T.I.A. Vice President Stewart Krohn, government’s decision to no longer mandate that tourists arriving in country with a negative PCR test need to self-quarantine is a welcomed adjustment.

Stewart Krohn, Vice President, B.T.I.A.

“We are absolutely in favor of the recent measures at relaxation.  We look forward to these measures being relaxed further as new standards are being enforced.  Things like restaurants meeting new requirements, gift shops, ancillary tours and businesses, once they get onboard with a certain level of standards, that’s what we are looking to see.  We have to realize that one of the great things about these tourist experience is that freedom for our visitors to feel like they can go anywhere they want safely.  It’s the kind of destination, that’s what people are looking forward to, people don’t like to be kept prisoners in their hotels and I congratulate the authorities for seeing the common sense in relaxing those restrictions.  The important thing to remember is that you can’t just relax the restrictions and do nothing else.  What the presumption is, in other words, the thinking behind the relaxation is that you have to judge the risks and as the prime minister pointed out, it’s more likely that a Belizean would have COVID-19 and nobody knows about it than a visitor would have COVID-19 because the visitor has been tested, in some cases been tested twice.”
