2 detained in N. Hwy abduction

Police have detained two men in connection with a brutal abduction which occurred on Sunday. Around 7:00 in the evening a 36-year old Ladyville woman was hitchhiking back home from the Crooked Tree cutoff on the Northern Highway. She told police that a car pulled up to offer her a ride, she recognized two of the occupants and got in. The car headed towards Belize City but quickly turned around and drove towards Orange Walk. The woman reports that the driver then turned off at a deserted spot where she was severely beaten, cut with a knife and stripped of her clothing. Details are sketchy but she subsequently escaped from her captors and hailed a passing car which took her to the Sandhill Police Station. Since that time the woman has remained at the KHMH in a stable condition with numerous cuts and bruises. Police continue to look for the remaining two suspects.
