Was Trio Villager Murdered?
Police are trying to identify a man who was found dead in Trio Village in Southern Belize. Police say that the circumstances surrounding his death are unclear at this time and they are awaiting a post-mortem to determine the cause of death. Police also say that a woman was found unconscious on the same road where the unidentified body was found. She reported to police that she was attacked by two robbers. At this time, investigators are trying to determine if there is a connection between the two incidents. Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch ACP Joseph Myvett provided details.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“At this point in time, we do not know if it is a murder. But this morning police were called to an area outside of Trio Village where they observed a body of a Hispanic male lying face down in some mud. There were no open wounds, however, he had a bump at the back of his head and his bicycle was found a short distance away. His identity has not yet been fully determined as he lived alone on the farm from where his body was found some three hundred yards away from his thatch house. So, officers are still on the ground investigating and whilst they were on the ground, they were also informed that on the said road there was a woman whom was found unconscious and upon officers’ arrival to where she was she had regained consciousness and reported that she was attacked by two Hispanic males earlier this morning who then ran away into the bushes after attacking her. In her case, we have still not been able to clearly determine or not where the motive was robbery.”

“Are you looking at the angle that the men could have attacked this other man as well?”
Joseph Myvett
“Could have been. This is an investigation that is new – it started probably an hour or hour and a half ago based on the time it took officers to reach the location as it is in a remote area.”
