New SUV tested in Belize

Even though Belize’s roads are awash in brand new sport utility vehicles, the bunch of SUV’s we found parked off the Northern Highway by Bella Vista still raised a few eyebrows. The half dozen or so new 2001 Acuras are here as part of a sneak preview of the not-yet-available vehicles that the Japanese auto maker is providing to a group of high powered American journalists. The scribes were brought here, wined and dined at the best resorts and given a chance to put the new toys through their paces. A Lexus, Mercedes and BMW were brought along just for comparison. It is understood that the luxury rides performed well and next week a series of television ads will be shot here with the four-wheel drive muscle cars tearing merrily across Belize’s finest out of the way places. Expect to see the Acuras and the ads sometime towards the end of summer.
