5 Escapees Remain on the Lam
And then there were five. Two weeks ago, twenty-eight prisoners escaped from the Belize Central Prison and a manhunt was set in place immediately. So far, twenty-three prisoners have been recaptured, including Akeem Tillett who was killed during a crossfire with authorities. Over the weekend, two others were detained and on Monday night, Eutychus Nunez was captured, leaving five others on the lam. All recaptured prisoners have been taken back to the place where they escaped and in the AdSeg area as well. Today, Kolbe C.E.O., Virgilio Murillo told News Five that the recaptured men have been safely tucked away.

“They are safely tucked away so that they do not escape again. Like I told you, the building that they are in is designed specifically for people like them, escape risk. So that building was never breached; it is very safe and secure for them to be there. What happened the other day was a hostage taking situation turned escape and that one was far different from any other escapes that we have seen in the history of the prison. So they are safely tucked away and they will remain there until certain time and after that they will be encouraged to go to programmes and try to get themselves fixed up.”
