Cops to be Charged for Hosting a Restricted Event

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says that several police officers will be charged for hosting a social event.  A video that surfaced online shows cops celebrating a birthday party – a social event that’s supposed to be restricted during the pandemic. The video captured as many as ten persons in the room – with no face mask in use. There were officers in uniforms, as well as other persons in civilian clothing. The officers were drinking and appeared to be having a good time – but their boss says they will face consequences for the partying. There is now an investigation and the officers are expected to face charges later this week. Here’s more from ComPol Williams.

“In respect to that video of the officers engaged in a social event, i.e., what appeared to be a birthday party, I have tasked the professional standards branch to investigate that matter and I have also directed that criminal charges be brought against those individuals in that video.  As a department we have been doing a lot to ensure that the public complies with the quarantine regulations and it cannot be that while we are harping to the public to comply then we are going to have our own officers out there breaking the same law that we are asking the public to abide by. So, as a department we are very disappointed. We expect that our officers are going to comply with the law, especially when it comes to a senior police officer who we would hope that they would act with prudence to ensure that those persons who are their followers follow them in doing the right thing. So, it is basically leading by example and in this instance that was not done. We are going to deal with the matter and the chips are going to fall where they may. I anticipate that by the end of this week charges should be brought against those persons concerned and then we see how we go from there.”
