How Will Police Address Victory Motorcades After Elections?

With a clear winner having been declared at last count, it will be difficult for the Belize Police Department to prevent either of the political parties or their candidates from taking to the streets in an impromptu victory rally.  So how will they attempt to temper unplanned events such as motorcades and does the police have the resources to effect the curfew?

“It is going to be something to some extent difficult to contain for the simple fact that there is nothing in law that we can do to prevent anybody from doing a motorcade.  And so yes, the political parties may wish to, after either of them have been declared as the winner, to do something.  And we will just ask, if that is the case then that they do so responsibly.  While yes, we will not be able to stop a motorcade, we can surely monitor and ensure that there is no violation and we wouldn’t want that when the motorcade is passing through any particular area that people come out in large numbers on the street corner with a view to see the motorcade.  If you want to see the motorcade then you stand on veranda or you stand in your yard and you can see the motorcade from there, but do not congregate on the street corner in large numbers.  We are not going to entertain that.”
