…And another fined $5,000 for an unnatural crime
In another disturbing case from the north, twenty year old Eder Pott of Corozal, appeared in the Orange Walk Supreme Court today to face charges of an Unnatural Crime against an eight year old boy. But Pott instead pleaded guilty to the alternative charge of Aggravated Assault of an Indecent Nature and after mitigation pleas from attorney Richard Stuart, Justice Herbert Lord fined him five thousand dollars. If he defaults on the payment, he will serve three years in jail. The charges date back to April fifteenth, 2007 when the child’s guardian checked on him in his room and found Pott naked in bed with him. The boy, in his statement to police, said that Pott had sodomized him. But the prosecution, represented by Crown Counsel Cecil Ramirez, accepted the guilty plea to the charge of Aggravated Assault because a report from the doctor who examined the boy stated that there was no evidence of sodomy.
