Janus Foundation donates computers
Some Belize City secondary schools today beefed up their technological capabilities courtesy of the Janus Foundation. The international charitable organization, based in Germany and Switzerland, donated twenty computers and printers to the government which in turn allocated them to St. Catherine’s, St. John’s, Palloti, Wesley, Gwen Liz, E.P. Yorke, Excelsior, A.C.C. and C.E.T. The donation ceremony was held this afternoon at St. Catherine’s and the nation’s top brass in education turned out for the occasion. Gabriele Wollensak, President of Janus, says that the donation is both timely and necessary.

“I think the idea of equipping the schools with at least one computer system is very important. In today’s time, the young people have to be computer literate, they have to be able to use the computer, to use the Word programs for whatever education they do. If they go into accounting or business administration, they have to deal with computers.”
“I think that by just seeing the faces of the students today and talking to the teachers, everybody is very excited about it. I’m sure that everybody is doing an effort to really put them to use and get themselves, the teachers and the students educated and to really use it for what it is there for.”
