A New Fee for Belizeans to Enter Mexico When Border Reopens
The northern border remains closed, but when it reopens, Belizeans wishing to cross the border will have to pay a new fee to enter Mexico. Press reports from Вullеt QRоо says that the Federal Government this week approved a fee to be slapped on Belizeans. This fee, it is reported, is not linked to the spraying of vehicles. The federal government also intends to charge an additional thirty percent on holders of ordinary passports. The charges are not sitting well with the Mexican private sector since thousands of Belizeans, as much as thirty thousand monthly, go to shop there – contributing millions of dollars to the economy. The downturn caused by the pandemic has significantly hurt businesses across the border so the spend by Belizeans is sorely missed.
