Yabra tops La Victoria in BFL action

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderly and you’re right on time for this new dish of Sports Monday. After loosing 2 in a row, Kulture Yabra returned to the friendly confines of the MCC for the must win home stand against La Victoria of Corozal on Sunday.

With a sense of urgency, Yabra opens aggressively as Eden Rowley centers for Norman “Tilliman” Nunez who misfires. It’s more Tilliman who bends this spotkick around the wall but it’s well read by Evan Hall.

Yabra keeps up the pressure on this push into the danger zone by Estevan Hall as Eden Rowley misses the header. The city team’s offense goes all out on this press, but after three attempts the door is effectively closed by El Gigante Perez.

However when Nunez beats Perez on the run, El Gigante dregs him down to concede a penalty. Valan Simms steps up and sends Hall in the wrong direction giving Yabra a 1-zip lead 37 minutes in and that score holds up to intermission.

Immediately into 2nd half action, Peter Canul sets table for Tilliman’s wing but his launch is straight at Hall. In the very next press Nunez insists from off the left wing and again he levels to impress the scoreboard.

Off this cornerkick Paulie Bradley comes up with a nice touch, but Hall comes up with a better save. From the left side Peter Canul rifles this right foot but again Hall intervenes. In fairness to La Victoria we must report they came to town with only 11 men forcing themselves into a defensive game, but this move by Hugo Aguilar puts them on the scoreboard and ties the game at 1 a piece 17 minutes into 2nd half.

For the next 15 minutes the stalemate rages until David “Manu” McCauley changes the direction of this shot by Peter Canul and Yabra goes up 2-1. 7 minutes later this run from Rogel Jones allows him to find an open Estevan Hall who gets the easy goal as Yabra goes up 3-1.

Meanwhile Nunez still remains on the hunt for his goal but this nice placement shot is denied by Evan Hall as the long whistle brings a 3-1 win for Yabra. They did what they have to do and finally picked up the W.

In other football results from the BFL playoffs, Sagitun remained atop the standing with a 1-nil win over San Pedro Dolphins out at the island, while Grigamandala kept pace with a 3-1 victory over Real Verdes at the Carl Ramos Stadium. It’s getting close to money time. So stay tuned to Channel Five.

In the cycling scene, Quinton “The Baddest” Hamilton, fresh off 3rd place in the Cross Country Classic, grabbed top honours in the Labour Day ride, Sunday on the Northern Highway. It was a Bel-Chi sweep with Miguel Perez 2nd, Elbert Pope 3rd, Jeffrey Zelaya 4th and Ernest Meighan rounds out the top 5. Yes Bel-Chi certainly is on a roll right now. That’s it folk, we wanna thank our cameramen for their great work we invite you back same time same place next week.
