U.D.P. Leader Weighs In on Allegations of Land Grab
We also asked U.D.P. Leader Patrick Faber about the allegations of land grab in southern Belize, involving indigenous land as claimed by Cristina Coc of the Maya Leaders Alliance. He asked for the evidence; and if so, he would condemn the action.
Patrick Faber, Leader, U.D.P.
“I listened very carefully as Miss Coc spoke and there is no evidence to that happening. She is saying she saw some people doing some survey and people told her this is happening. Again, if indeed the land that she says people are surveying is the communal land that has been awarded to the Mayan people in that area as their customary land then that cannot happen. So, everybody would know that is the case and then they will have a case in court if that is the point if that is true. But, I don’t have any evidence that that is happening and it is apparent to all who is listening to what she said that she doesn’t have any evidence. She is only tell you what she saw and what people reported is happening but no concrete evidence of anything happening.”
Andrea Polanco
“If it is happening – is this something you’d condemn?”
Patrick Faber
“Absolutely. If it is – it is illegal if that is the case because this is a court judgment that has happened. And this is why I am having trouble understanding why this is being said that it is done or why anybody would even attempt to do that because that is a losing case for anybody who would try to take control over any such land.”
