Conflicting stories over Yabra killing

Story Picture
About the only thing everyone involved agrees on is that in the wee hours of Labour Day morning a major altercation occurred on Caesar Ridge Road. When it was over one man was dead and another badly beaten.

Bloodstains still remain on the pavement where 18-year-old Troy Gill was stabbed. Gill was with a group of friends on Caesar Ridge Road when he received multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest. According to Gill’s family and friends, the trouble started from inside the Bismark Club. Lloyd Burgess, says while they were at the club, one Morris “Wink” Fuller, who hangout occasionally at the establishment accused them of trying to steal a bicycle. Burgess alleges that Fuller first threatened him with a knife.

Lloyd Burgess

“We had a misunderstanding at the club, so this guy just like playing a hero and thing cause I was sitting on a bike and he always accused us, saying that we thief bikes and this and that. And we tell him that we are not those guys. So he tried to put me out the club, so my bway over there, one of my brethren, stepped on him and everything started right there. So he ended up sticking a knife at my throat, but I tell him cool off, cool off, you don’t have to go through that. So everything settled and I thought everything crashed, it cooled off and everything. But we headed home because the club finished, so we headed home. Now when we headed home and we reached, we saw him coming out of the blue and he hollered that he ready to die, he ready for anything. Which in he done dissed me already, so I take it like I done dead.”

The young men say it was when Fuller pulled out a knife that they attacked him. Deshawn Craig, Gill’s brother says Fuller came looking for them and then attacked his brother.

Deshawn Craig, Brother

“He parked his bike in the middle of the street and he told us that he came for one of us, only one he wanted. And he hauled out a knife and he started waving it at us, so we grabbed pieces of sticks to defend ourselves from not getting jucked from him and he went after the guy that didn’t have any stick. That was my brother Troy, and he end up stabbing him.”

Gill died as he was being transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. However, when news Five located Fuller, he had an entirely different story to tell. Fuller, who had injuries to his hand and chest, says he was heading home when he was attacked by the group of young men. Fuller claims he did not have any weapon and did not stab anyone.

Morris “Wink” Fuller

“As I approached to crossing by where Mr. Quan’s shop is by Kraal Road, they whopped me in my head and I came off my bicycle and I was on the ground and I hear them di holler `kill ah, kill ah’. And I am one the ground and I am hollering for help and nobody no deh fi help me and I di feel licks all about. That’s all I felt and I identified three of them as Palacio, one of them as Welcome and the next tall one. I’m not really sure what’s his name or what they call him, but I know the three of them.”

“They are claiming that they attacked you, but after you pulled out a knife.”

Morris “Wink” Fuller

“No ma’am. How will I pull out a knife and I don’t have any knife. I don’t have any knife. I was going home. I was coming with my dogs’ food, I have three dogs and when I come I usually bring food. I was coming home and they lay-waited me and knocked me off my bicycle.”

Jacqueline Woods

“Morris did you stab Troy Gill?”

Morris “Wink” Fuller

“No ma’am. I didn’t stab Troy Gill. I didn’t stab anybody. If I stabbed him I would have told you I stabbed him in self-defense. I didn’t stab anybody.”

Jacqueline Woods

“You had any knife on you?”

Morris “Wink” Fuller

“No, none none none.”

Fuller says he believes Gill got stabbed by one of his own friends during the attack on him. Fuller says he believes he was attacked because he claims he caught the men throwing bikes over the club’s fence and chased them off the compound.

Mario Vernon, Head of CIB, told News Five that they have not detained Fuller because of his present condition but they have been questioning him about the incident. This afternoon a City Council worker found the suspected murder weapon in a vacant lot.
