MOE Advises Teachers to Work from Home Inclement Weather!
The Ministry of Education is advising all teachers to remain at home for the rest of the week due to the inclement weather. Today, we spoke with Doctor Carol Babb, the Chief Education Officer, who says that the teachers can work from home. She also calls on parents to play an active part in their children’s education during this time.

“I advised all teachers to stay at home and to work from home. I know because of this Tropical Storm Eta we are experiencing a lot of rain and flooding. So, to ensure the safety of all teachers and everyone, I have advised General Managers to ask teachers to stay at home and work from home because most of these teachers, especially at the secondary level, they are doing online education. So, they can continue with their online education, with their online teaching so that might not be an issue. The issue might be at the primary level where parents have to pick up hard packages. So, what I have advised parents to do is to read story books with your children. We have also given parents some of the text books and they can engage their children in some of the activities. We are asking parents not to go to the school because teachers will not be there. If they don’t have any learning packages, then do some other activities to engage the children so that learning can continue.”

“They remain out of the classroom until the Ministry indicates it is safe to go back?”

“Well, I have indicated that they can stay at home for the rest of the week. If the weather improves then I expect that teachers will go back to the classroom on Monday.”
