Marconi Leal Thanks Supporters for Outpour after Home Invasion
Turning to a home invasion…on Tuesday, the family of the People’s United Party’s Belize Rural North candidate, Marconi Leal was assaulted during an aggravated burglary. Three men entered the residence along the Old Northern Highway, bound and physically assaulted Leal’s wife, his eighteen-year-old daughter and his daughter-in-law, before making off with an assortment of electronic items. One of the getaway vehicles was discovered a short while following the incident and Leal was able to recover most of the stolen items. Earlier today, the P.U.P. candidate issued a release, thanking family, friends and constituents for the outpour of support given to the Leals following the incident. According to Leal, it was his wish that the perpetrators would have been caught on the scene or shortly thereafter.

“We were hoping that we would have found them in the car but they had gotten away. We tried to find them in the location right around the area there but unfortunately we didn’t find them, but I am happy that we got the car and my stuff was in the car. So we knew that it was them that took our stuff.”

“Now I gather that the vehicle has been impounded and police are doing their investigation.”
Marconi Leal
“Yes, the police took away the car and I understand that they already caught one of them. So it’s in their hands now.”

“What does this mean for your safety and the safety of your family?”
Marconi Leal
“Well, we would have to be more careful, more alert, you know, better security. Well I would like to thank all my family and friends who have been sending texts and making calls and just showing love and support to me and family because what we went through last night was uncalled for.”
