North Stann Creek River Surges

Back to the flooding….down south in Sarawee, the North Stann Creek River rose dramatically.  NEMO officers out there were monitoring the situation and were expecting the river to rise.  Assistant Coordinator for NEMO in Stann Creek, Kevin Flores says that the most affected area is the Belize Site Area where NEMO officers assisted in evacuating persons to higher grounds.

Kevin Flores, Assistant Coordinator, NEMO

“We anticipated this flood coming in and so what we are doing we are just making sure people who are in low homes move up to a family member.  We have been monitoring this flood from last week and we saw the threat of the storm.”

“Talk to us about the areas that are flooded at this time.”

Kevin Flores

“We have some high risk areas for flood. We monitored the Stann Creek River we know that is was coming down stream and from where the storm was heading we know that there was going to be a run down. We were anticipating a run down and now here it is.”
