Polling Station in Calla Creek is Reassigned

Josephine Tamai

Chief Elections Officer Josephine Tamai announced earlier today that voters in Polling Area Eighty-five which includes Calla Creek, will cast their ballots at Iglesias de Dios Seventh Day Adventist Church since the initial polling station at Holy Cross R.C. School has been reassigned due to the recent flooding.  According to Tamai, it is the only location that has changed as a result of the natural disaster.  Communicating the last-minute change in that location, she says, has been fairly easy because it is a small number of voters.

Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer

“With the flooding situation, we’ve seen some improvement especially in the Cayo District and one of the areas that we had concerns in the Cayo District was for Cayo West.  Actually, Polling Area 85 which is Calla Creek, so voters in Calla Creek will now go to vote at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  So we want voters to be aware of that because access to the school is not, we’re not able to get there right now.”

“That’s the only one?”

Josephine Tamai

“That’s the only one.  That’s the only change that we have.”

“Now how are you notifying the voters from that specific area that there’s been a change in polling station.”

Josephine Tamai

“The returning officers are out there, we know the political parties also have been informed.  We’re doing the radio announcements as well.  So we’re trying to get the message out to voters as best as possible and because many people, well you know it’s not a very big village, we have approximately two hundred and forty-seven voters in that area.  So getting out the message to them is fairly easy for us at this point.”
