Faber Addresses Vile Text Messages and Nude Photo

Patrick Faber

On Saturday afternoon, almost immediately following the prime minister’s virtual press conference, social media lit up with text messages purportedly sent by U.D.P. leader Patrick Faber.  If those messages were not vile enough, they were quickly followed by a nude photo of Faber, accompanied by sexual allegations made against him in his ministerial capacity. The image are not only repulsive but also unlawful, since the recent passage of cyber bullying legislation makes the act of disseminating such images and information a criminal offense.  It’s a tough situation on the eve of elections for Faber, but he responded to the question by saying that the allegations made against him are completely baseless.

Patrick Faber, Leader, United Democratic Party

“The truth is that it is baseless.  This situation is clearly devised to try to bring some kind of embarrassment to me and try to make me lose focus of what it is I am aiming for for myself, for the party and for the wider country.  I am not distracted by that at all and there is a lot of concocting of things and pushing agendas this time.  This is what politics is.  It is a low move on the part of the opposition and I will leave it at that.  I condemn that kind of politics and I hope that the Belizean people can see it for what it is.”

“But you have to pursue those, there is a photo that appears to be you nude in a room and that does lend credence to allegations that someone had something against you.”

Patrick Faber

“That‘s utter nonsense and how do you connect that to me bartering scholarships?  That is absolutely untrue, fabricated and in fact created to create embarrassment and doubt at this time which to me is completely unfounded and baseless and tasteless, in fact.  So I will leave it at that.  I‘m pretty sure the Belizean people see it for what it is.”
