Getting Out All Voters on Election Day

Just before news time, we were able to connect with U.D.P. Party Leader Patrick Faber. He says that the U.D.P. is poised for a victory at the polls on Wednesday, after having spoken with all thirty candidates earlier to ensure that they are prepared for the general elections.  The mobilization of voters during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the aftermath of a natural disaster will prove challenging for both political parties, but Faber says that all efforts are being made to get out as many voters as possible, notwithstanding these obstacles.  The atmosphere, he says, is one of confidence.

Patrick Faber, Leader, United Democratic Party

“The mood right now is victory and of course we are pounding the pavement.  Every last opportunity we have to be in homes in a safe way and also working the phones to make sure that we are prepared to get the voters out tomorrow.  I believe that that effort has been tremendous on the part of our party and will prove successful tomorrow.  That’s the message that I’ve been getting from our candidates resoundingly across the country.”

Isani Cayetano

“What will be perhaps the logistical aspect of mobilizing persons considering the fact that you have certain communities that are either under water or have been rendered inaccessible because of the recent flooding.”

“Well in those areas we have made arrangements to make sure that people can move as safely as possible to their polling stations.  The areas that I‘m understanding that are still affected are Cayo South, Cayo North, Cayo Northeast, Cayo West and also some of Belize Rural North.  And so, our candidates have made their preparations to make sure that they can move voters to the polling areas if in fact some kind of situation still exists where they would not, under the normal circumstances, pass smoothly to get to those polling stations.”
