Belize supports Int’l Crimes Court
In other international news Belize has become the 8th country to ratify the treaty establishing a permanent international court. This is a court which would have jurisdiction if national courts are unwilling or unable to administer justice to people accused of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The issue has come up most recently in reference to such crimes committed in Rwanda, Bosnia and Kosovo. The International Criminal Court is expected to be established soon and its creation will hopefully have some deterrent effort on potential acts of inhumanity. Signing for Belize at the UN was Belize’s Charge d’Affaires in New York, Stuart Leslie.
