Teen is Murdered in the West; 1 Person Detained

On Wednesday night, a sixteen-year-old minor was found with multiple injuries on the Bullet Tree Road.  Around eight p.m., Special Constable Jaime Pinelo was travelling from Bullet Tree Falls Village to San Ignacio Town when he came across Gregory Lewis, a teenager from San Ignacio.  Pinelo was still alive when he was found and taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital. He expired soon after, but not before he told police who his attacker was. Here is News Five’s Duane Moody with a report.

Sixteen-year-old Gregory Lewis was shot multiple times and left for dead on the Bullet Tree Road in the Cayo District. A gravely injured Lewis was discovered by Special Constable Jaime Pinelo and by the time police arrived on the scene and rushed him to the San Ignacio Community Hospital, he was dead. But not before disclosing to Pinelo who his killer was.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“He was sixteen years old and his body was found on Bullet Tree Road. He was still alive when he was found actually. And before passing, he told the police who the person is that had caused his injury. And so we have somewhat of a dying declaration from the deceased and based on that, we have since picked up the person who he had said, prior to his death, had inflicted injuries to him.”

A number of expended shells were discovered in the area. The incident occurred on the night of the General Elections about two hundred feet from the cut-off to the San Ignacio Community Hospital. According to Commissioner Chester Williams, the violence was motivated by a misunderstanding between a group of persons.

“In San Ignacio, we had a murder on election night, but the murder is not related to the election process. Apparently, it has to do with a group of guys who are familiar with each other and one of them may have killed the other. The suspect is already in custody and the police is trying to put the evidence to be able to charge the suspect that we currently have in custody.”
