New headmaster for SJC
St. John’s College will soon be welcoming a new headmaster to its campus. He is Jose Antonio Vega. 40-year-old Vega, more properly Dr. Vega, holds masters and doctoral degrees in educational administration from St. Louis University in the U.S.A. Born in Orange Walk Town, he previously taught at Muffles High School as well as SJC and is also a graduate of SJC Jr. College. Vega is now completing his preparation for the priesthood and will be ordained as a Jesuit on June 3rd at La Immaculada Church in Orange Walk. He has recently been doing mission work in Honduras helping to set up new parishes in remote villages. Vega replaces Andrew Lopez who has held the headmaster’s post since 1992. According to SJC President Carlos Perdomo the college has a tradition of looking for a new headmaster after 6 years in order to keep the institution fresh. Lopez will continue to teach at SJC and will also work to develop a Belizean ethnic studies program based at the junior college.
