The South Fully Represented in Cabinet
Rodwell Ferguson
The south is fully represented in Cabinet. All four southern area representatives for the P.U.P. were elected and have ministerial positions. Doctor Louis Zabaneh is the Minister of State in Education, while Rodwell Ferguson has been assigned the Ministry of Public Utilities and Logistics, formerly known as the Ministry of Transport. Oscar Requeña is now the Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government. Mike Espat is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment along with Christopher Coye under Prime Minister John Briceño. Espat could not attend today’s swearing-in because he is COVID-19 positive, but his three colleagues spoke to us about their ministerial responsibilities.

“I am one person I am not afraid of challenge. I will work with everybody so we can synchronize for the betterment of this country. So that is no issue for me. Logistics, I know that one day it will be tidy right now especial the bus industry. We would have to figure how we can transform the entire bus industry and the commuting passenger has a better ride, have a better access and make sure they are safe while riding the bus.”

“So we are excited. We are looking forward to working with everyone in the ministry across the country, to transform our education system so that it can complement the development that is needed in the country. We need to have I guess many meetings with the staff and do a good assessment of where things are at this point in time.”

“The first order of business is to go to Belmopan and to really make an assessment of where we are. Certainly after that assessment is done begin to chart the way forward in terms of ensuring that we implement our policies and programs that we had set up in our national manifesto.”
