“Red Ants” remanded for robbery of a businessman
Also in the Magistrates’ Court, twenty-four year old Leroy Rhaburn, known as “Red Ants” was today charged with the Robbery of a San Pedro businessman. Rhaburn pleaded not guilty but the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that robbery is a serious crime that is becoming too prevalent and if released, Rhaburn might rob again. And while he told the magistrate that he should be granted bail because he is a father and has a job he would like to keep, Rhaburn was remanded into custody until May fifteenth. The accused is one of two suspects believed to have robbed San Pedro businessman, Jaime Manzanero, on March twenty-first. Manzanero reported to police that he was walking on Orange Street, heading towards Albert Street when he was accosted by two men at Trench Alley. He said they searched him and Rhaburn took his cell phone and three hundred and ninety dollars cash from his pockets and the two took off down the alley. Police detained Rhaburn the following day and his accomplice has yet to be arrested.
