Weapons Stolen from Police Station!

An assortment of firearms was stolen from the Succotz Police Station. Police say that four nine-millimeter pistols, two rifles and a twelve-gauge pump action shotgun were stolen during a burglary early this morning.  There are a lot of questions about how the weapons were removed from the police station, considering there is a shift system and a police officer resides on the upper flat of the building.  The Police Department is now offering a reward of up to two thousand dollars for information that could lead to the recovery of these weapons. Today, ACP Joseph Myvett shared details of the circumstances under which the firearms were stolen. He says that cops are actively investigating to locate the weapons and that there are two investigations underway – a criminal and an internal investigation.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Sometime around six-forty-five a.m., the Succotz supervisors were alerted to a burglary that had occurred at the Succotz Village Police Sub Station. Upon making checks, they observed that some seven weapons were missing and believed to have been stolen and those included some high powered weapons as well as handguns.  The investigation at this time has shown that the station was secured sometime around one a.m. today. It is a two storey building and an officer resides upstairs with his family. There are parallel investigations being carried out, that of a criminal investigation and an internal investigation to see what policies if any were not followed or not being adhered to. We do have a named suspect in relation to this investigation whom we are seeking and we are following several leads. We have obtained surveillance footage from nearby areas which we are in the process of reviewing and in the process the police officer residing upstairs will have to be detained and interviewed in relation to.”

Reporter

“Is there any indication that this may have been an inside job?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this time we do not want to suspect but we are following all angles.”

Reporter

“Was the cop sleeping at the time for the place to be burglarized like that?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“He came off duty at one a.m., along with others and another shift would have come on duty sometime around six-forty-five in the morning and that is when they arrived and found that several louvers were removed from the window of the station causing those persons to enter the building.”

Reporter

“How many officers were on duty or how many officers man the Succotz Police Station?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“There is a total of twenty-three officers posted at the Succotz Police Station and they do run a relief system and at the time I believe it was three officers who had worked the last shift.”

Reporter

“So, the officer who resides there his shift ends at one and who was supposed to be there from one-thirty to six-forty-five?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well, apparently no one was there because that station has been there for a number of years and it was manned by one police officer. It has been upgraded where a shift system has been put in place.”

Reporter

“So, no one was there isn’t that a concern?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Of course it is and that is the reason why an internal investigation is being held.”

Reporter

“Because officers were supposed to be there – or were there officers who were supposed to be on duty?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“I do not know where or not their shift system encompasses the entire twenty-four hours and that is also a system that is being looked at as a part of the internal investigation.”

Reporter

“Sir, where were these weapons being stored inside the police station?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“They were in a secured cabinet; a secured steel cabinet that was built specifically for that purpose.”

Reporter

“How does one get access for this secured cabinet?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well, that is a part of the investigation to see whether or not it was damaged or whether or not keys were used to open the secured cabinet.”
