A Home Invasion in Burrell Boom

A Burrell Boom family is still shaken up tonight after they were held up at gunpoint inside their home on Wednesday night.  Police say that just after seven that night, fifty-three-year-old Gary Samuels and his family were at home when the attackers wearing face masks and hoodies pounced on them and robbed them of several thousand dollars worth of items.  The burglars didn’t get very far because police intercepted the vehicle they were travelling in around mile fourteen on the George Price Highway.  The six Belize City men are facing charges of aggravated burglary.  Today, we spoke with Samuels who indicated that he and his family are still trying to recover from the traumatic experience and were unable to speak about what transpired in his home. Superintendent Alejandro Cowo tells us more about the incident.

“Whilst they were inside, six male persons entered his residence, held them up at gunpoint; tying them and putting them inside a room. Thereafter, the male persons searched the entire house and they stole jewelry and assorted electronic devices. Thereafter they left from the location and police were alerted of the aggravated burglary and therefore police intercepted the six male persons who were inside a vehicle. A search was conducted in the vehicle which led to the recovery of some of the items that were reported stolen from the house. As a result, police detained those six persons and they will be charged sometime this evening.”
