Eden Mejia is Gunned Down in Peini; Aduan Usher Escapes Unhurt

Further south, thirty-year-old Eden Mejia was shot and killed in Punta Gorda Town shortly after midnight on November nineteenth inside the home of someone who is also well known to police.   Mejia’s bullet-riddled body was found lying face up on a mattress inside a room.  It was identified by his sibling, a police corporal who was responding to the report of shots being fired on Pampana Street.  Reports are that two men entered the residence while the home owner was placing her dog inside the house.  Immediately thereafter, gunfire was heard coming out of the bedroom.  Fortunately for Aduan Usher, he was able to escape unscathed. Mejia wasn’t as lucky.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett shares additional details.

“On yesterday’s date which is the nineteenth of November, sometime around 12:40 a.m., police were called to the residence of one Aduan Usher on Pampana Street in Punta Gorda Town where they observed also the lifeless body of one Eden Mejia, thirty-years-old.  What our investigation has revealed so far is that a woman who lives at the same address had gotten up to attend to her dogs sometime shortly after 12:30 a.m. when she was approached by two dark complexion male persons who were apparently outside the yard dodging and they then forced their way inside the building and entered one of the rooms and fired several shots, fatally injuring Mejia.  The other person who was in a separate room, Aduan Usher, was able to make good his escape and later came in to the police station to make a report in relation to the incident.”

“Did they know who they were going after?  Did they know that he was in the room?”

“I cannot say whether they knew who was in that room but in relation to this investigation, also we are looking at very credible leads which we are following at this time which we would not want to compromise.”

“Any information on what perhaps may have been happening at that location?  It appears as if persons were being targeted at one location.”

“Well we know that all those persons at that location are known to the police and very well-known to the police.”
