Trinidad nurses vow walkout
While Belize’s medical community may see World Health Day as a time for unity, such is not the case everywhere. In Trinidad and Tobago nurses employed by government are planning a total shutdown of the health sector for Monday and Tuesday. They will stay off the job in protest of what they allege are poor working conditions and inadequate pay. Specifically, they are seeking a 50% incentive allowance to stop the steady exodus of trained nurses to higher paying positions abroad. Government has offered a 25% allowance, which the nurses have rejected.
