PC Mena’s Family Receives Life Insurance Cheque!
Today, the Belize Police Department handed over an insurance cheque to Elodia Mena, the wife of deceased Police Corporal Anibal Mena. As we reported back in early September, Mena was involved in a road traffic accident in Chan Chen Corozal. Mena was on his motorcycle when a truck swerved into his lane and collided into the cycle. Mena was hospitalized for a few days until he passed away. Today, Elodia Mena received a cheque from insurance agency Diversified Life Solutions. Minister Kareem Musa and Commissioner of Police also spoke on Mena’s passing.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
“I join here today with the ranks of the Police Department; a department that your husband proudly served in. We are very grateful for his years of service – fifteen years or so of service to the department and service to the country of Belize for which we are extremely grateful. And today while it is still very fresh; very raw in your mind and heart of losing a loved one, I want you to know that you have a police department; you have friends within the department that you can call on for support. You can call on me because we lost a family member as well when we lost Anibal.”
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“While, yes, we are certain that the money that you are going to receive is not going to bring back your husband, we believe that it is going to provide some level of comfort to you and your family in ensuring that there is some financial stability at least for a period of time resulting from the wise decision that your husband took a few years ago when he decided to be a part of the diversified life solutions insurance scheme; it is a program that is run through the Ministry of Home Affairs. Often times we see police officers falling ill or police officers dying and there is nothing there as a form of support to their families that they left behind. So, this insurance scheme is a very good one that I believe can help to assist the families of our fallen officers and even when the officers are ill it also provides some financial support for them to cover their medical expenses.”
Harrison Pilgrim, Diversified Life Solutions
“We recognize that whatever benefit accrues will never replace a loved one but we believe that this small token is one more reminder for the family of the enduring love for that departed family member. It is also a reminder to all of us, all of the persons within this Ministry of Home Affairs that there is there is life beyond death.”
