Y.E.S. Launches New Domestic Violence Campaign!

Karen Cain

To coincide with the launch of the sixteen days of activism, the Youth Enhancement Services launched a domestic violence awareness campaign that features the work of local artists. Karen Cain, the Executive Director of the Y.E.S., spoke with the press following the launch of the videos.

Karen Cain, Executive Director, Y.E.S.

“We are looking primarily at domestic violence because we know it is an issue that is a little bit ticklish – and we know it is a family issue and people would tiptoe around this issue just like sexual abuse but this issue has caused a lot of pain and trauma for women and their children within the family. We know that seventy-eight percent of those who report domestic violence were women in 2018. So, we are looking at a child within that family setting who is also traumatized and so it is not only a family issue but it is also an economic issue because if that woman is working and she is severely beaten she loses days at work, so that means money is less within that week of pay and then we are looking at health issue, not only physical health but also mental health as well.”

“A part of what you did here today is the launch of the video and use of the artists – share how you have used them to help get your message out?”

Karen Cain

“Whew – that was something else because it was really exciting for us to have LB Fynest, Britney Star and Bad Gyal Sharon and the other two ladies to give us permission free of cost to use their video in our campaign. If you notice, the video itself highlighted the three topics we are working with but we have zeroed in only on domestic violence because that’s an issue that needs attention.”
