Bail jumper believed to be in El Salvador
He might be a fugitive from the law, but tonight police officers from all over the region are keeping an eye out for convicted child molester Carlos Milan. The Belize Police Department says they have sent a detailed description and picture of Milan to police agencies in every Central American country. However, sources close to the victim’s family tell News Five that the former high school teacher is definitely living in El Salvador. Police had seized Milan’s passport after his arrest but we understand he simply applied for new papers from El Salvador, where he was born, and he was able to leave Belize with those in hand. We are told that just before Christmas of last year, Milan left Belize with his two young sons, ages 2 and 3, heading for El Salvador and forfeiting his $10,000 bail. Shortly after, the mother of the victim, who is Milan’s common law wife, quit her job and left to meet him there. On Monday of this week, Milan was sentenced to 3 years in prison for the indecent assault of his 7-year-old stepdaughter after the child had reported to police that Milan had repeatedly molested her. The case was tried in absentia after Milan twice failed to show up for trial. The victim and her older brother, abandoned by their mother, are still in Belize and are in the care of their grandmother.
