Teacher sentenced in absentia for indecent assault
He was a well-respected teacher at a prestigious school but on Monday, Carlos Milan, who was charged last year with the indecent assault of a minor, was sentenced to 3 years in prison. However, it looks as if the former S.J.C. educator will not serve any jail time, at least not in the near future, as the accused is no longer in the country. It is believed that Milan skipped his $10,000 bail sometime late last year and is presently residing in Honduras. Milan was scheduled to appear in court last October but never did attend the hearing and the case had to be adjourned. Since then the police have been trying to bring Milan to court. When all their attempts failed, the matter proceeded as an Ex Parte trial. News Five understands that the minor’s mother, who was living with Milan at the time of the incident, has also left the country and is with Milan. Milan was charged following an incident in which a boarder apparently walked in on Milan when he was in a compromising position with the child. Police say the 7-year-old girl reported to them it was not the first time that Milan had molested her. A medical examination confirmed that the minor showed signs of sexual abuse. Since the incident she has resided with her grandmother.
