The Ministry of Defence & Border Security

Today the Belize Coast Guard is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary – and their new bosses in the Ministry of Defence and Border Security were there to celebrate with them. But before we get to that, we’ll tell you more on this Ministry and some of the areas that Minister Florencio Marin and Minister of State Oscar Mira are championing. While Minister Marin declined an interview with the press as he indicated that he had other matters, he referred us to the new C.E.O.  Dario Tapia. So, what can you expect from this Ministry whose scope includes responsibility for the B.D.F and the Belize Coast Guard? Here’s what C.E.O.  Tapia had to say:

“What I could tell you is that the strategic guidance I have gotten from the Minister, we will focus on three goals: goal number one is to look after the welfare of the coast guard personnel and the Belize Defence Force and also look at accountability; goal number two is to ensure that we carry out our operational duties to the maximum to ensure that we have territorial integrity and a safe and secure Belize; and goal number three is to engage in defence diplomacy with our international and regional partners again to ensure that we have a safe and secure Belize.”
