Two men are lucky to be alive after being involved in a road traffic accident on Sunday night around eight-thirty in Santa Elena Town. George Velasquez and Jason Linarez were on a motorcycle when they crashed head-on into a taxi that was making a left turn. The men on the cycle sustained minor injuries but the driver of the taxi fled the scene. Here’s more from ACP Joseph Myvett.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“San Ignacio Police were called to the scene of a road traffic accident in Santa Elena Town and later they visited the San Ignacio Community Hospital where they saw eighteen-year-old George Velasquez and eighteen-year-old Jason Linarez whom were reported to police were on a motorcycle being driven by Velasquez and they were heading from a north to south direction when a car coming from the opposite direction crossed into their lane in an effort to turn off into another street causing the collision. The driver then fled the scene leaving both persons on the scene. Velasquez is in a stable condition based on the injuries he received whilst Linarez was treated and released. We are still seeking the driver of the taxi in relation to this investigation.”

“Sir, what is the investigation saying about who is at fault in that accident?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Well, the taxi guy who was coming in the opposite direction took a turn across the highway into the oncoming traffic causing the accident.”
Reporter
“So, it would be his fault because he has to clear oncoming traffic?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
