CARIFESTA to be in St. Kitts

Although the regional CARIFESTA is not until August, plans for the biggest Cultural Splash in the Caribbean are underway, and so are plans for CARIFESTA week in Belize. CARIFESTA 7 will be held in St. Kitts and Nevis. Belize’s Director of Culture Beverly Smith Lopez attended a technical meeting last week in St. Kitts, to review the festival facilities and overall plans. CARICOM member states are allowed to bring a maximum of 25 artists and performers. Smith Lopez says Belize will select a delegation, which is both affordable and flexible enough to participate in as many cultural areas as possible. A preview of the delegation’s performances will be given here at home during CARIFESTA week. Belize has participated in previous CARIFESTAS in Guyana, Jamaica, Cuba, Barbados and twice in Trinidad and Tobago.
